Post 201.....oups

I missed my big 200th post....meh never mind

I do not have a lot of work done this week. I've pull my Summer Goddess from the design wall, she is far from done but I want to concentrate on finishing writing some patterns and quilting some of the quilts I want to bring to the Toronto Quilt Show.

I did have a bit of time to work on my Spanish Tiles....I made it a table runner but I can easily see it as a quilt. I adore the look of this piece. It is now basted and ready to quilt.

Old and New and a small finish

Remember my diamond quilt fiasco? The one where the borders enthusiastically waves at me each and every times I went to my sewing room?

Since I needed to display this sample for the Toronto quilt festival, Friendly borders were not an option. So I just chopped the borders, bind it and added beading just for the fun of it.

So this is for the old.

The new is all Pinterest fault. I got inspired by Spanish blue and white tiles. So I did a first try with some lightweight steam-and-seam. The fabric is fraying badly so I will try again but with a stronger double stick fusible web, it should take care of that problem. Imagine this with the same blue sashing!!! I think it would be marvelous !!! Each block is 12"

Time for some fabric porn :) Here is the bounty I got this week.

And now for the finish. I did a bundle of fat quarter inspired by a quilt named Strawberry Lemonade Lea from Podunk Pretties made. It was hard not to start pulling fabric when I saw her quilt but I made a little Pin cushion :) I might take the dark red out and put a pale pink one instead. This is why I try to sew something with my bundles.

a little Friday finish

Right now I am making videos for my sponsor about the quilting products he sell in his online store. It is quite fun and mean free products for me :D

One of the product is Fabric Magic from Pellon. You sew the fabric to the Fabric Magic and when you steam it, it shrink and give texture to the fabric. In order to demonstrate the results, I made this cute little 12" x 12" quilt. I can't stop petting the texture of the Fabric Magic lol. This is my only finish for the week.

Summer Goddess

Well my Summer Goddess is taking shape. This picture is preliminary because I am not sure if I like a big flower at her waist...maybe smaller flowers would look better. I want it to look like her dress, not like she is standing in front of a bouquet lol.

And more fabrics to turn into fat quarters. :) Almost wishing they won't sell .....Almost :D

Friday??? Already

Darn this week went fast.

First I finished my little mindless sewing I did with the leftover from the fat quarters I am doing for Toronto.

Perfect to display the bundle's fabrics and also a nice piece for Valentine day :) I just quilted a stipple all over in red. I think the longest part to make this was the binding :)

For the background I used this beautiful print. I love the softness of those ladies.

Remember the flowers I made? Well I was not able to continue because I went thru all my Steam-a-seam in my stash and was unable to get more. So I just put every thing I want to do for this project and took a picture. At least you will have the general idea :)

It is a Summer Goddess. The background will be beige scrappy blocks, and I will use the different green fabrics to make the leafs and stems. More flowers are needed. She is almost real size!!! If this work I might also do a Fall Goddess. I have to figure out how to do the binding of the corset.

Fabrics and flower

This week is pretty much similar to last week, fabrics and flower. I am waiting for leafs because I am not sure how many I will need. Hopefully I will be able to show more of this project by friday :)

And for the fabrics part, still making fat quarters for the Toronto quilt exposition. My latest bounty

I have decided to make a few bundles. The nice thing is the warehouse I go to always cut large so even after making my fat quarters, I still have fabrics left that I can play with.

I dream of spring

So I am making applique flowers :)

I made a few sample to see if I could design a few flowers for an idea I have. Those are the first I made but but for my secret project I need a lot more. I might be because I am just done with winter even if I can admit that this winter was not that bad, we didn't get any -40F :)

Otherwise I am working on those fat quarters still....121 done.....a gazillion to go but before I must go to my favorite fabric wholesaler....isn't that absolutely horrible? :D

Ceci et cela

It mean this and that :) This is pretty much where I am for this week. I am slowly but surely building my fat quarters I want to sell in Toronto next June. Look at those precious little bundles of joy :)

I have to finish writing the pattern for "ode to coffee"

I have 12 videos to shoot for my sponsor. Look I have a new intro and Outro. It is great what you can find on!!!!

And I have a project maturing in my head with flower applique that I want to start... Hopefully I will have something to show you by the end of the week :)

Life without coffee is not worth living

I finally finished my "Coffee makes everything Okayer" I Free motion quilted all different motifs in each cups and backgrounds so I got to practice some pattern that I don't use regularly. It is far from perfect but I do not care this one will hang in my kitchen.

Me and coffee have a great relationship. Since I have Narcolepsy and none of the pharmacologie available is working, caffeine make a difference between a meh day and an ok day.

So here is my ode to coffee :)

I made is using the layer cake Miniature Gatherings by Primitive Gathering sold on Craftsy.

End of times

Don't worry, I didn't lose my marbles and started shouting at the corner of the street that "you must repent, the end of times is coming"

Like every year, Kim from Persimon Dreams Propose a series of themes and you have to make a project from start to finish in the same week. I didn't really have time to participate but this last one really spoke to me.

This week theme is be inspired by time, deadlines, or the end.

I am not a prepper and don't plan for the end of times (even if I have to admit that Trump scare the hell out of me)

Lately, the end of times seem to be a recurring theme in my life. More precisely, Pandemics. I just finished 2 books back to back exactly about this. The fantastic "The Stand" from the ever brilliant Stephen King.  It outlines the total breakdown of society after the accidental release of a strain of influenza that had been modified for biological warfare causes an apocalyptic pandemic which kills off the majority of the world's human population.

The second book is from Connie Willis "Doomsday book" Even if you do not like science fiction I highly recommend this book. First the protagonist is a female!!! It happen in 2 epoch at the same time. The future 2054 and 1348 England where an historian is sent back in time to observe the middle ages but an error put her at the horror of the black death epidemic.  The writing is beautiful and it make you love those people that are about to experience Hell on earth and make the inevitable even harder. The 2054 part didn't aged well but all is forgiven at the end of this book.

Well with all that it bring me to my project. I know it is not very imaginative but I could not take out this symbol in my head. Such a simple, even cute symbol but that it represent suffering and death.

I tried to find something less........gruesome but that symbol was in my mind and refused to leave. So here is the result.

Monday making (?)

My inspiration is still on strike on this cold Monday morning. I decided to rip my ocean waves blocks and see if sashing would help.

I am also doing my first cross stitch. I never tried before but this is fun and relaxing

And preparing the fat quarters I want to sell in my booth in Toronto.

Montréal used to be an important producer of clothing (french-Canadian were considered cheap labor) With time a lot of the manufacturers went to counties like China and India, but we can still find big fabrics wholesalers here and I know a few of them. I call them my Alibaba Caves :) That is how I can sell good quilting cotton for a low price. Aren't they cute!!! (and if I don't sell them....well more for me lol)

Piecing yourself in a corner

I think I have pieced myself in a corner with my "Ocean Waves" quilt.

4 blocks feel....unfinished.....and a bit dizzy too lol

I then put it on point and tried adding big triangles

I am partial to this layout but there is a chance that this piece end up as a more or one less :)

Sometime it is good to just put a project aside and let it breath a little.

Well that is interesting

I made a second block based on The ocean waves traditional pattern and the effect is quite nice. I don't have enough of the white fabric but tomorrow i will go look if I can buy more. If not I will find a plan B. I now want to see how it will look with 4 blocks. I do not have anything else on my design wall right but I am slowly getting back into my sewing room.

Paper piecing Ocean waves block

This week was not a very good week regarding inspiration or just envy to sit at my sewing machine. I just lost my mojo.

I was still able to finish one paper piecing block I designed based on the Ocean waves traditional block. It is a 17" block so just 4 of those would make a nice center for a small quilt.

Lost : Mojo

If found please bring back as it is dearly missed.

I am having a blah, no inspiration, nothing excite me, time

I need a banner for the booth I rented at the 2017 expo in Toronto in June. I used an antique linen and started quilting it. I hate it.

I also started the ocean waves block paper piecing. I do not feel inspired.

I have pattern to write and I can make myself do it.

Hopefully it won't last. I like it better when I have to many idea!!!!

what a disaster!!!!

Well I finished the Diamond quilt. If it look absolutely crooked in the picture is because it is really crooked in real life!!!!!

While piecing this quilt everything was going fine and laying flat but then I decided to quilt the background before applique ing the diamond. It made the background shrink badly. I tried to block this quilt twice then quilt matchsticks on the borders in the hope that it would "eat" the extra fabric.....

it didn't work. So now the borders are waving enthusiastically at me every time I walk into my sewing room.

At least it is finished and if a crop the picture right I will be able to use the picture to write the pattern. Thank the Goddess it is not a whole quilt. So sad because I really like the scrappy borders.

New week and feeling better

It's a brand new week and I finally feel better. It is hard to live with a chronic condition so I tend to embrace the good days.

This week on my design wall....still working on my Diamonds are a girl's best friend. Scrappy borders are so fun. You can use a roll of paper and just use the scraps you have on hand.

Those a little pearls I want to use for the quilting. One little pearl at the corners of the squares I've drawn. I will let you know if it is a brilliant idea after a few 100 of them O_O

What else, oh yes, I saw this traditional block called Ocean Waves. Loved it and would be perfect for a boat theme quilt I have in mind. The problem is that I have problems piecing triangles....I really suck at it. I am testing with paper piecing and I think I found the solution at my problem.

I am also writing the pattern for my Turtle applique. I am also doing a video because I used Inktense on the scale and it is easier to show than to write it down. She is 20" x 16" but I might make a bigger pattern too. I am not sure yet.

Fairy at moonlight

It has been a hard week regarding my health so I didn't had a lot done. I was able to "finish" my Fairy at Moonlight quilt. "Finish" because I think it still missing something. More quilting? Might be but I finished the quilt using this tutorial

Super-Duper Easy Way to Face a Quilt (Or: How to Sew a Non-Binding Binding)!

Victoria Gertenbach from The silly BooDilly blog made a great photo tutorial that is easy to follow. I asked her to do this tutorial on video to show in real time how to do this binding and she said yes. So the first video will be in French coming next week probably.

I took the picture outside because it was sunny but darn it was cold and Windy!!!!!

The reason why I might do more quilting is because as you can see in the pictures, the fabric is really bumpy and wrinkly. I hate this indecision !!!!!
